Recognizing the role of women and girls in science, not only as beneficiaries but also as agents of change, including accelerating progress towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, is the purpose of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, held on 11 February.
The United Nations (UN) General Assembly declared it as a way of supporting and promoting the access of women and girls to education, training, and scientific, technological, engineering and mathematics research activities.
