Begun March 27, 2023, at Ciências ULisboa the five days course “Introduction to Game Theory” by Michael Wooldridge, invited by Luís Antunes, LASIGE Ph.D. collaborator, and Luís Correia, LASIGE integrated member.
This course aims to introduce the key concepts of game theory for a computer science audience, emphasizing both the applicability of game theoretic concepts in a computational setting and the role of computation in game theoretic problems. The course assumes no prior knowledge of game theory. Mathematical and computer science ability is assumed at the level of a second-year undergraduate.
Michael Wooldridge was also invited to give a talk “Towards Machine Understanding”, on March 1, 2023, that will address questions such as “So to what extent are these impressive new tools really intelligent? To what extent can we say they understand in the same way that we do? And where is this technology heading?”.
Michael Wooldridge is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Oxford, and Director of Foundational AI Research at the Alan Turing Institute, London (the UK’s national center for AI & data science). Before joining Oxford in 2012, he was for 12 years a Professor at the University of Liverpool, where he was first Head of the Department of Computer Science, and then Head of School (Dean) of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. Prof. Wooldridge gained his Ph.D. from the University of Manchester in 1992.
