Myriarch project kick-off meeting

Date: 01/03/2023

The kick-off meeting of the Myriarch project, a 3-year research project funded by FCT in 2022, was held in Lisbon on the 1st of March, 2023. The Myriarch project will investigate translation mechanisms for the inter-networking of different Internet Architectures, exploring recent advances in programmable networks (SDN, NFV, and programmable data planes) as enablers for the design and implementation of those mechanisms at Terabit scales.

The three project partners, INESC-ID/IST, IT-Aveiro, and FCiências.ID/ LASIGE, gathered together for one day of insightful presentations and discussions. The meeting started with a project introduction, given by the Project PI, Fernando Ramos from INESC-ID/IST, who presented, first, Myriarch’s vision and objectives, and then the structure of the project’s main tasks and the general approach to the research to be pursued. Afterward, among other topics, the realization of a testbed at the premises of each partner, a common strategy for the dissemination of the project results and for the interaction with the excellent project’s advisory board, the milestones and work plan for the tasks in the first year were addressed and discussed by all the project partners during the rest of the meeting.

The Principal Investigator at LASIGE Salvatore Signorello and Bernardo Ferreira, both LASIGE researchers, participated in the meeting. The team at LASIGE will lead the work on Task 2 of Myriarch, called “Translation mechanisms at the network layer”. The goal of this task is to identify and define the operations that translators can perform at line rate on programmable switching ASICs. For the sake of this research work, LASIGE will deploy locally a testbed made of the latest networking hardware, programmable with the P4 language.

Stay tuned for more updates about Myriarch in the near future!
