Luís Correia, LASIGE integrated member, was the invited speaker in the Lisbon AI Seminar on “Philosophy and artificial stuff such as intelligence and life”, on December 5, 2023.
The Lisbon AI Seminar is a periodic interdisciplinary scientific meeting that aims to present topics related to the Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence from different scientific domains, from Computer Science to Physics and Biology, to Social and Human Sciences. The seminar takes place monthly and lasts between 1 and 1.5 hours in a mixed format, in person, and by Zoom, usually with a guest speaker. The Lisbon AI Seminar aims to expand the area of research in the Philosophy of Computing and Artificial Intelligence, started at “Centro de Filosofia das Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa” (CFCUL) in 2022, seeking to encourage reflection and debate around the nature and impact of Artificial Intelligence on contemporary societies. The aim is to make the discussion comprehensive, addressing general concerns such as the artificial implementation of the mind and its consequences, the impact of AI on the production of scientific knowledge, the ethical implications of AI applications, or the social, economic, and political effects of AI.
