Title: Experience Report of Summer Internships at Uber and Gitar
Speakers: Paulo Canelas and Catarina Gamboa (LASIGE+CMU)
When: Monday, October 14th, 14h30
Where: FCUL, 6.3.27

In this month’s RSS Meetup, Paulo and Catarina will be sharing their experiences during their summer internships at Uber and Gitar respectively.

Paulo will share my experiences from my summer internship at Uber, which focused on bridging research with real-world challenges in software engineering. During his internship, Paulo worked on detecting errors using program analysis and in collaboration with experts in program analysis. The goal was to use research to detect errors in an industrial setting, showing how research approaches can solve practical challenges in large-scale systems.

Catarina will share my experience from my summer internship at a small and recent startup in Silicon Valley, where she had the opportunity to apply research ideas from software engineering to the development of a real product. Working alongside a team that included PhDs in Programming Languages, Catarina was able to see firsthand how cutting-edge research can be transformed into practical tools that developers use daily. She’ll discuss the challenges and rewards of bringing these ideas to life in a fast-paced startup environment and how this experience helped bridge the gap between theory and practice.
