We are pleased to announce that Carlos Duarte, leader of the Inclusive Human-Computer Interaction at LASIGE, has been appointed as an expert to the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Digital Inclusion and Accessibility track for virtual worlds and the citiverse.

This important initiative brings together international experts to address critical challenges in making emerging virtual environments accessible to all. The track, led by Professor Pilar Orero from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, focuses on ensuring digital inclusion across different dimensions, including digital skills, visual impairment, and neurodivergence.

As a LASIGE researcher with extensive experience in digital accessibility, Carlos Duarte joins a distinguished panel of worldwide experts. This appointment aligns with LASIGE’s commitment to developing inclusive digital technologies and our ongoing research in accessibility.

The work developed within this track will be fundamental in shaping how virtual worlds can be made accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities or digital literacy levels. This initiative represents a unique opportunity to influence international guidelines and best practices for inclusive virtual environments.
