The sea is increasingly presenting itself as a land of opportunities, a space open to innovation and entrepreneurship, but also to boosting traditional activities. In Portugal and in Europe, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the sea, boosting blue and sustainable growth, is an important objective that requires qualified and highly motivated professionals. It requires technicians and entrepreneurs. It requires theoretical knowledge and practical experience. It requires a connection to the past and a vision of the future. The Tecatlatic project seeks to respond to the challenge that the need for qualified professionals represents for the blue economy.
The main goal of the project is to train technologically skilled professionals oriented towards the blue economy, according to the needs of companies, while stimulating business innovation, blue entrepreneurship, and increasing ocean literacy.
The specific goals of the project are:
1. Training for employability
Capacity Building for the blue economy is dedicated to those who are already workers and to those entering the job market, matching capacity building and companies’ needs. LASIGE is part of the team designing and piloting the innovation training program.
2. Stimulating business innovation in the blue economy
Bring together companies in the Maritime Economy and Research Centres to identify innovation opportunities/needs enhancing this match-mating, thus contributing to the creation of added value through business innovation.
3. Vocational training
Training and awareness of High School students for emergent “blue careers/ employment”, ocean literacy, and ocean science to sustainability.
4. Entrepreneurship training
Post-graduate training in sea science, business, and entrepreneurship, dedicated to graduate students, young entrepreneurs, staff from ocean economy companies, and public servants.
