Date: 31/03/2025

Tiago Guerreiro, LASIGE Integrated member and Vice-director, presented an invited lecture at the Northumbria University’s UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in Citizen-Centred Artificial Intelligence, on March 31st. Tiago presented a talk entitled “Keep your eyes on the ball: How can AI help people live by their values” where he presented his background in accessible computing and his current work on designing novel approaches and technologies that meet people’s values, particularly in the field of human-robot interaction.

Northumbria University’s UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Citizen-Centred Artificial Intelligence (CCAI) is a pioneering initiative dedicated to placing citizens at the heart of AI design and development. Over the course of eight years, the CDT will support more than 60 PhD researchers, fostering a new generation of experts who will shape AI applications and services that serve not only governments and businesses but also the wider public.

The CDT’s training programme integrates expertise in AI, human-computer interaction, design, regulation, and governance, enhanced by real-world industry and community placements. Through interdisciplinary learning and hands-on experience, researchers will develop the skills necessary to lead advancements in AI ethics and design, ensuring that AI technologies are truly citizen-centred.
