João Guerreiro keynote @ 2nd ACM Europe Summer School on Accessible and Inclusive Technologies

LASIGE integrated researcher João Guerreiro was a keynote speaker at the 2nd ACM Europe Summer School on Accessible and Inclusive Technologies. The summer school features outstanding speakers who share their expertise on research related to accessibility, participatory and inclusive design, responsible AI, and human-computer interaction. It took place from 16 to 19 June 2025, in Borås, Sweden, hosted by the University of Borås.

The keynote, titled “Making Virtual Reality Accessible to Blind People”, explored the challenges and opportunities of making immersive virtual environments accessible to blind people. It addressed approaches to designing non-visual feedback and interactions to support locomotion, aiming, and interaction with close-range objects, as well as the design of a feature-rich, accessible VR boxing experience. The talk concluded with key lessons learned across these works and open challenges to making VR more accessible.
