Alysson Bessani, LASIGE integrated researcher and Director, was the keynote speaker at the 1st Workshop on Reliable Large-Scale Data Management (W-RLDM’25) that took place on September 29, 2025, in Porto, Portugal, co-located with the 44th International Symposium on Reliable Distributed Systems (SRDS 2025).

In the talk, entitled “Cloud-of-Clouds Storage: from Theory to Production”, the researcher stressed that despite the huge efforts of cloud providers to secure their services, there is a profusion of events related to intrusions, unavailability, and even data corruption/destruction, and showed that one way to avoid the effect of such events is to use multiple cloud providers with appropriate middleware. The talk discussed abstractions, algorithms, and systems for storing data across multiple clouds in a fault- and intrusion-tolerant manner, with a particular focus on a cloud-of-clouds service currently in production (vawlt.io).
