LASIGE, represented by its research member Rúben Gouveia, invited two experts in digital health and health informatics, Ravi Karkar and Fateme Rajabiyazdi, to give talks on 9 July 2026 at CIÊNCIAS ULisboa, relevant to the research being carried out at the R&D centre.
Ravi Karkar (University of Massachusetts Amherst) explores how interactive technologies can help people better understand and manage their health, with a particular emphasis on supporting self-experimentation and personal health decision-making. He recently received an NSF CAREER Award to advance research on interactive systems that enable people to conduct rigorous self-experiments in everyday life.
Fateme Rajabiyazdi (University of Calgary), focuses on health data visualization, human-centred AI, and the design of interactive systems that help people and clinicians make sense of complex health information. Her work combines visualization, AI, and human-centred design to support healthcare decision-making and enable uses of health data in clinical practice.
It was really exciting to see such a strong turnout from those interested, whether they were focusing on digital health, AI, health informatics, or data visualisation, or were simply curious about the work being carried out in these areas. Thank you for your keen participation!
