LASIGE integrated researcher Ibéria Medeiros spent seven months, from May to December 2025, as a visiting researcher at RISE – Research Institute of Sweden, in Västerås, Sweden, and SnT, SerVal research group, at the University of Luxembourg during her sabbatical period. The research visits focused on advancing research on software testing and security to improve software reliability and trustworthiness in collaboration with Mehrdad Saadatmand (RISE) and Mike Papadakis (SerVal).
The goal of the research visits was to work closely with Mehrdad, Mike, and their teams to investigate methods for testing and implementing software security, leveraging software requirements to detect vulnerabilities, removing them by correcting the software code, and validating the new code. These methods integrated code and runtime analysis and artificial intelligence techniques that, combined with software requirements, allowed a guided and direct testing process, resulting in a more accurate and faster software security assessment.
This joint work resulted in three papers published in the international conferences in top-tier international conferences:
- FSE 2025: KAVe: A Tool to Detect XSS and SQLi Vulnerabilities using a Multi-Agent System over a Multi-Layer Knowledge Graph
- ICSTW 2026: Friends or Foes? Combining Static Analysis Tools and LLMs for Vulnerability Detection
- ISCME 2026: Empowering Large Language Models with Static Analysis for Effective Vulnerability Detection
Beyond these publications, the stay allowed the team to progress ongoing research projects in the field—currently under peer review—and sparked a new collaboration with Eduard Enoiu from Mälardalen University (MDU, Sweden). During her visit, Ibéria Medeiros also delivered two invited talks.
These research visits were partially supported by the FCT Mobility programme.
