The KATY project (Knowledge At the Tip of Your fingers: Clinical Knowledge for Humanity) was funded in a recent Research and Innovation H2020 call (H2020-SC1-FA-DTS-2020-1). KATY targets the challenge in building AI-empowered Personalized Medicine systems that can be accepted by clinicians and clinical researchers. The AI-empowered knowledge is a human interpretable knowledge that clinicians and clinical researchers can: understand, trust and effectively use in their everyday working routine. KATY is then an AI-empowered Personalized Medicine system built around two main components: A Distributed Knowledge Graph and A pool of eXplainable Artificial Intelligence predictors. As a stress test and due to the lack of personalized clinical responses, KATY will be experimented in a low prevalence and complex cancer: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).

The project consortium is composed of 20 participants from 11 countries, covering universities, hospitals, governmental institutions and industry, and is led by Universita Degli Studi Di Roma Tor Vergata (PI: Fabio Massimo Zanzotto).

LASIGE's participation is led by the integrated member Cátia Pesquita and funded with 587,420 euros. LASIGE will be responsible for developing innovative methods for building the distributed knowledge graph that integrates heterogeneous clinical data with ontologies and knowledge graphs and further contributing to the development of a unified framework for explainable, graph-based AI for Personalized Medicine. The project started on January 1, 2021.
