Marta Silva, LASIGE’s PhD Student, and the LASIGE integrated members Daniel Faria and Cátia Pesquita received the Best In-Use Paper at the 2022 Extended Semantic Web Conference (ESWC 2022) for their work “Matching Multiple Ontologies to Build a Knowledge Graph for Personalized Medicine”. The event took place between May 29 and June 2 in Greece.
The Best In-Use Paper Award recognizes the merits of research on semantic technologies in real-world settings. In the paper, the authors describe their biomedical holistic ontology matching strategy that aims at addressing the scalability issue of matching multiple biomedical ontologies. Testing this strategy in a catalogue of 28 ontologies achieves a reduction in runtime of almost 50% when compared to the state-of-the-art pairwise approach.
