Hugo Miranda appointed ISOC Community Fellow 2026

Date: 31/07/2026

Hugo Miranda, LASIGE integrated member, has been appointed Internet Society (ISOC) Community Fellow 2026, for the 2026–2029 term, one of 50 selected from 800 applications from various countries.

The ISOC supports and promotes the development of the Internet as a global technical infrastructure, a resource to enrich people’s lives, and a force for good in society. Its work aligns with its goals for the Internet to be open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy, for everyone. But challenges remain: high costs, fragile infrastructure, shutdowns, and privacy threats.

In order to build a critical mass capable of playing a strong and active role, in raising awareness amongst the public and policy-makers regarding the challenges of Internet governance, ISOC selects a group of professionals each year who, following a period of specialized training, will be expected to fulfil this role and approach.

Hugo Miranda hopes to help strengthen the role of Portugal, Ciências ULisboa and LASIGE in the international debate on the future of the Internet, in support of an open and secure Internet.
