Date: 04/08/2025

The paper “Exploring Aiming Techniques for Blind People in Virtual Reality”, co-authored by LASIGE’s João Mendes, Manuel Piçarra, Inês Gonçalves, André Rodrigues, and João Guerreiro, has been presented at the IEEE Conference on Virtual Reality and 3D User Interfaces (IEEE VR 2025), a top-ranked venue (CORE A*). The conference took place in Saint-Malo, France, from the 8th to the 12th of March.

In this paper, the authors investigated non-visual techniques to support blind people in aiming tasks in Virtual Reality (VR). The authors leveraged a VR archery scenario and conducted a user study where blind participants were asked to aim and shoot at both stationary and moving targets, using a variety of aiming techniques.

The paper was also published in IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (SCIMAGO Q1), a top-ranked journal where selected IEEE VR papers with significant contributions are featured.
