A collaboration between the University of São Paulo, the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and LASIGE has resulted in the publication of an article in the journal Nutrients, a publication with an impact factor of 5.9 and ranked in the top 10% of the Scimago Journal Ranking.
In their paper titled “Genome-Wide Admixture and Association Study of Serum Selenium Deficiency to Identify Genetic Variants Indirectly Linked to Selenium Regulation in Brazilian Adults,” a team of researchers, including LASIGE’s integrated member Francisco M. Couto, presented the first Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) reporting the association between selenium (Se) deficiency and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes indirectly related to Se regulation in an admixed population that presents an unusual characteristic: Se deficiency despite sufficient Se intake.
