LASIGE researchers at ACM ASSETS 2024

Date: 04/11/2024

ASSETS, the ACM SIGACCESS Conference on Computers and Accessibility (CORE A), had its 26th edition last October (28-30), 2024, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. LASIGE’s integrated researcher Tiago Guerreiro was ASSETS Program Co-Chair (with Robin Brewer, University of Michigan) and managed a program with 67 technical papers, selected from 226 submissions, both record numbers in the conference statistics. The conference was for the first time a dual-track event after 25 editions as a single track. André Rodrigues, LASIGE integrated researcher, served as ASSETS Proceedings chair.

Tiago Guerreiro, Filipa Rocha, and João Guerreiro attended the conference in St. John’s. Filipa Rocha, LASIGE PhD student, participated as a student volunteer and co-presenter of a short paper co-authored with colleagues at ITI/Larsys titled “Ethical Concerns when Working with Mixed-Ability Groups of Children“. João, LASIGE integrated researcher, presented a poster paper titled “Speed-of-Light VR for Blind People: Conveying the Location of Arm-Reach Targets“, co-authored by Diogo Lança, Manuel Piçarra, Inês Gonçalves, Uran Oh, André Rodrigues, João Guerreiro. The poster resulted from a collaboration between LASIGE researchers and students, and Uran Oh at Ewha Womans University in South Korea.

In his role as (outgoing) SIGACCESS Awards Chair, Tiago Guerreiro also had the honor to present Chieko Asakawa, a longstanding collaborator of LASIGE researchers, with the SIGACCESS Outstanding Contributions to Computing and Accessibility Award, which recognizes individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the development of computing technologies that improve the accessibility of media and services to people with disabilities.

ACM ASSETS 2025 will take place in Denver, Colorado, USA.
