LaSIGE’s team won the 2016 edition of the EDP re: dy challenge.
The team, constitued by Pedro Ferreira and Fernando Alves, also had the collaboration of Professor Antonio Ruano of University of Algarve.
The EDP re: dy challenge was addressed to all startups, entrepreneurs, researchers and higher education students, with the objective of develop innovative solutions in the area of energy efficiency to complement the EDP Re:dy service (already in operation), promote research in this area and identify high potential elements for the EDP group.
The contest had a pre-selection of ideas based on proposal writing, a pitch and presentation to select the finalist ideas, and a Final that consisted in a presentation of the before an evaluation panel composed of managers and executives of several companies of the EDP Group. In total 30 teams participated including participants from 10 universities.
The team proposed a complementary system to the EDP’s re:dy product (https://energia.edp.pt/particulares/servicos/redy.aspx) that use predictive and thermal comfort models to optimize the control of air conditioning equipment so as to obtain suitable thermal comfort at the same time reducing the consumption of energy associated with the use of such equipment. The proposed system can, through the re:dy service, contribute to the widespread and increased energy efficiency in the domestic sector and small businesses and services.
