Nuno Garcia, LASIGE integrated member, commented on the new Artificial Intelligence (AI) model ‘DeepSeek’, launched by China this week on 27 January 2025.

“This model achieves the same performance in less time and needs fewer resources, fewer computers to train on”, our researcher told to “Telejornal”, RTP1’s news programme.

The ‘DeepSeek’ open model developed a powerful large language model (LLM) and had an investment of 6 million dollars, compared to 5 billion dollars for OpenAI (ChatGPT), a small fraction of the money spent by the main American AI companies, which triggered a panic in the U.S. stock market on Monday.
