Sara Silva, LASIGE integrated member, was the General Chair at the Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference 2023 (GECCO 2023), which took place from July 15–19 in Lisbon, Portugal.

GECCO presents the latest high-quality results in genetic and evolutionary computation since 1999. Topics include genetic algorithms, genetic programming, ant colony optimization and swarm intelligence, complex systems, evolutionary combinatorial optimization and metaheuristics, evolutionary machine learning, evolutionary multiobjective optimization, evolutionary numerical optimization, neuroevolution, real-world applications, search-based software engineering, theory, hybrids and more.

The conference was 100% hybrid and had 900 registrations, of which more than 2/3 were on-site and the rest online, had included 32 tutorials (selected from among 64 proposals) as well as 23 workshops reflecting the most relevant topics in the field and several competitions.
