Abstract: Deep Learning is the hottest technique in the artificial intelligence field nowadays. Large multilayer neural networks are being developed to integrate intelligent systems in every domain of our lives, ranging from autonomous driving to games, agriculture, consumer products, and surely medical applications as well. Scientific research continues to lead innovation in this field with applications in cancer detection, acceleration of MRI exams, cell classification, and many others. In this talk, we will go through the basics of deep neural networks and check out the most recent advances in the field from LASIGE and the scientific community.
Bio: Nuno Garcia is an Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Informatics, FCUL, where he teaches computer graphics, machine learning, and AI courses. He is an integrated member of LASIGE, where he leads a project on Deep Learning for Breast Cancer Detection, and co-advises PhD and MSc students on this topic. Before this, he was a visiting researcher at Boston University. He holds a PhD from Università di Genova and Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (2020).
