The Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Guide, developed as part of the VA|PREVENTION project, will be launched next month on November 12 at the Egas Moniz School of Health and Science.
VA|PREVENTION is a scientific research and technological development initiative aimed at evaluating the cost-effectiveness and implementation of a new person-centered digital intervention designed to prevent type 2 diabetes in high-risk adults. The project seeks to create a technological tool that personalizes guidance for each individual, helping them in their daily lives. If proven effective, this tool will establish a valuable support network for those at risk, optimizing community resources.
The Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Guide includes a proposed tool called the RISK CALCULATOR, which estimates an individual’s risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus over the next 10 years. This tool can be used anonymously.
This project exemplifies research aimed at making a positive impact on the community. As João José Mendes, the president of the Egas Moniz School of Health and Science, stated, “the VA|PREVENTION researchers, from five higher education institutions, not only have the merit of having secured funding for a project strongly aligned with the PNS 2030, but also of wisely integrating teaching, research and citizen science.” The LASIGE team is led by João Balsa da Silva and counts with Ana Paula Cláudio e Maria Beatriz Carmo.
The event will be attended by the directors of the Egas Moniz School of Health and Science, by the presidents of the Associação Mellitus Criança, and the Municipality of Barreiro, as well as key non-academic stakeholders. It will feature a round table discussion focusing on the contribution of this resource to the prevention of type 2 diabetes in the community.
