Today, July 14, 2021, is the World Freedom of Thought Day, a right established in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted on December 10, 1948.
“Every man has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes the freedom to change religion or belief and the freedom to manifest that religion or belief, through teaching, practice, worship and observance, alone or collectively, in public or in private” (article 18).
European Union also legislated about freedoms, at EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, article 13 “The arts and scientific research shall be free of constraint. Academic freedom shall be respected”.
LASIGE respects academic freedom and celebrates this day.
