Date: 10/04/2026

The paper entitled “Systematic Review of Named Entity Linking and Knowledge Organisation Systems in Biomedical and Clinical Domains” includes contributions from LASIGE researchers Pedro RuasSofia Conceição, and Francisco Couto, and addresses the evolution of approaches, knowledge organisation systems, and open challenges in biomedical and clinical Named Entity Linking over the past decade.

This study is a systematic PRISMA review of 102 articles published between 2013 and 2024, which will serve as a basis for future work in biomedical text mining, particularly to advance multilingual coverage, handling of NIL entities, and the integration of Large Language Models into knowledge curation pipelines.

It is authored entirely within LASIGE, published in ACM Computing Surveys (ACM), and is available here.
