“Biomedical Data and Text Processing using Shell Scripting” was the tutorial that Francisco M. Couto, LASIGE integrated member, gave at the 19th European Conference on Computational Biology (ECCB2020), the main computational biology and bioinformatics conference this year in Europe.
This tutorial was a hands-on session to learn how simple command-line tools can be used and combined to retrieve, extract and filter data and text from web resources using open standard data file formats, such as TSV, CSV, and XML that can be open by any text editor or spreadsheet application, particularly relevant to Health and Life specialists or students that want an example-based introduction to shell scripting, to easily automate some common data and text processing tasks without the need to acquire advanced computer science skills.
The event took place on September 4, online, under the umbrella of “New Trends in Bioinformatics by ECCB”, that this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, took place virtually.
