Kathrin Gerling, the head of the Human-Computer Interaction and Accessibility research group at the Institute for Anthropomatics and Robotics (IAR/KIT), visited LASIGE from November 6 to 8, 2024, hosted by integrated member André Rodrigues. She frequently collaborates with LASIGE’s Tech and People group, which conducts research on Inclusive Human-Computer Interaction. Additionally, she serves as the co-supervisor for LASIGE PhD student Daniel Reis.
During her visit, Gerling delivered a talk focused on the use of virtual reality and games for individuals with disabilities. Her group’s research primarily explores how interactive technology can be designed to support human self-determination and achieve experiential accessibility. In her lecture, she aimed to highlight the limitations of the perspectives of the research community on disability while identifying topics that need attention to ensure equitable access to immersive experiences.
The lecture attracted a significant audience, including not only LASIGE members but also scientists from other laboratories.
