LASIGE had its Welcome Day annual event today, October 15, 2025. The event was organized by LASIGE’s PhD Student commission and aimed at being a warming and informative welcome reception to our new members.

The event began with a few words of welcome from the LASIGE Executive Committee, Alysson Bessani, Tiago Guerreiro, and Cátia Pesquita, who also highlighted relevant information for the complete experience of the LASIGE scientific community.

Paulo Veríssimo, LASIGE’s founder and once again a member of LASIGE, after 10 years at other international laboratories, delivery the first talk “What is a research strategy and why it can take you very far”, sharing his thoughts and experience.

The second speaker, Miguel Garcia, was a former LASIGE student and currently a backend software engineer at Portuguese start-up SENSEI, who spoke about his academic career, the difficulties and joys, and his subsequent professional career in academia and industry.

The LASIGE’s PhD Student commission presented its activities and events and sought to attract new volunteer members to boost its activities. And there was also time for a rich and well-attended poster session showcasing the work resulting from the LASIGE Summer of  Research initiative.
