Full Title
Secure Continuum Remote Attestation Middleware
Description

The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) is creating large-scale IoT-Edge-Cloud systems composed of heterogeneous devices, Edge nodes, and Cloud infrastructures. Their diverse capabilities, mobility, network conditions, and exposure to adversarial threats make continuous trust assessment essential. Remote Attestation (RA) provides a mechanism to assess device integrity, but existing approaches often rely on controlled assumptions and lack systematic support for managing attestation in dynamic environments.

This project aims to design a system-level approach for managing RA across the IoT-Edge-Cloud continuum. The research will systematically analyze existing RA approaches and threat models, specify an attestation protocol, and develop a prototype evaluated for scalability, adaptability, and robustness.

The main innovation is a layered middleware using a cumulative stacking model that enables constrained IoT devices to participate through Edge nodes, while decoupling the attestation protocol from policy-driven, context-aware operational control. The project will establish a foundation for adaptive trust management and attestation-aware orchestration.
