Talk1: Characterising Gaming Group Experiences
Speaker: Daniel Reis
Summary: When people play digital games together, their experiences are often influenced by the group. While prior research has focused on the individual player experience, this work argues that a deeper understanding of group dynamics is required for designing digital games that effectively support complex social interactions. Drawing on semi-structured interviews, the study characterises the lived group experiences of fifteen long-term players, exploring group lifecycles, their impact on play, and how games and platforms support or constrain them. It provides insight into how group-based play unfolds and examples of how games can better support these dynamics.

Talk2: A Systematic Look at a Decade of Named Entity Linking in Biomedicine
Speaker: Sofia Conceição
Summary: Biomedical knowledge is scattered across heterogeneous textual sources, where linguistic ambiguity can make automated information organisation and retrieval difficult. Named entity linking addresses this challenge by mapping biomedical entities to entries in knowledge organisation systems. These systems provide important standards for improving information retrieval and facilitating knowledge sharing among humans and automated systems. This review covers 102 articles published between 2013 and 2024, examining developments in biomedical and clinical entity linking, the limitations of current approaches, and directions for future research.
